Homeworx Ltd a local company developer operating exclusively within Gibraltar, specialising in Urban renewal with the construction and refurbishment of run-down property and buildings. With our skilled and experienced group, we have completed a number of local projects to the benefit of our community at large, we are proud to improve the quality of lives and investments of a wide array of customers by Urban renewal and building new opportunities within our town.

Our Heritage and the Trust

As investors in the up-keep of our heritage one of our aims is to inspire the individual, the community, organisations and businesses within Gibraltar to appreciate and take pride in the heritage around us and to encourage conversations on how this heritage should be conserved for future generations to enjoy. For the building community the Heritage Trust wants to advise and help foster a sensitive restoration of our older buildings respecting the exterior and equally important interior features. They are also interested in working with potential developers on the scale and design of large projects from a very early concept stage thus helping to foster cooperation between the Trust and developers as well as individual members of the building industry.

Foundations of the Company

The founder comes from a family background of building and maintenance works, he started at an early age of 12 as a young assistant of an electrician father. At the age of 15 he joined and completed a 4-year Apprenticeship in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, then soon after qualifying as an engineer he experienced the Falkland Islands war, engaged in the refitting of ships detailed to that conflict. At the age of 22 he joined the Admiralty Fire Service but continued to work in building maintenance as part time work, eventually taking care of the up keep and maintenance of a number of buildings.

The Start of Building Experience

Over the years’ and experienced in many working environments, the first major project came by at the age of 28 organised to extend and develop a top floor property, converting this into a duplex 4-bedroom apartment with terrace.

In his early 30s he undertook the building of a 3-bedroom detached Vila with swimming pool and gardens, this Vila was to be his own home for a few years to come.

Aside from the Building Trade roots

After retirement from the Fire Service to follow a much needed venture of his own, he embarked in many business opportunities, the following years were spent in a few parallel projects, these included an Urgent Courier and Transport company and as Editor of his own Local Magazine.   Familiar with  refurbishments of property, he also immersed himself in the refitting and management of 2 restaurants and catering businesses.

Within the growing popularity of the Exchange and Mart Gibraltar magazine, he dedicated a full centre page to the promotion of Property Sales working in conjunction with all the local estate agencies. This would follow up the existing passion for building and property. Eventually after having enjoyed a few years with other projects he decided it was time to expand on to other new online business ventures evolving in the horizon.

Innovation in Virtual Viewing

A new horizon of Online Virtual reality had just emerged, conquering this technology available from online sources and investigations, he dedicated a few years to this innovative means of promotion. He made a serious investment to acquiring equipment to produce virtual tours and launched a website dedicated to the promotion of every tourist sites in Gibraltar. With the collaboration of a powered glider pilot, the sites were available to visit online from an aerial point in the sky, someone could target the attraction and then walk through the entire site from the comfort of his sofa. This was the first Virtual Street Viewer published here in Gibraltar and well before the actual street viewer you can appreciate today. 

Within the growing popularity of the Virtual Viewing technology with all the Gibraltar tourist sites online, he decided to move on to the promotion of Property and produced many home virtual tours. Eventually moving again in the direction of property developments.

Homeworx "the company trade mark"

In 2005 the opportunity arose for the move back to property developments, a few years later the launch of the company and then to become what is Homeworx Ltd today.

The Trade Roots of the company

A popular developer and real estate company, working both in Gibraltar and Spain offered him a partnership within their company, to take on the building side of the business. This Joint venture was an eye-opener to the property sector at that time, his expertise in the building trade, the ever-growing market of sales made him move on to forming the construction company, he registered the business Homeworx and went on to developments privately. The company specialised in all fields of construction, refurbishments and specialist installations of services, building works on facades and interior decoration. Homeworx became popular as a specialist in refurbishing older buildings and urban renewals. He took on his first complete building development with the support from Natwest Bank, converting a very derelict building into 3 x 1 and 2-bedroom apartments and extending the roof space to accommodate a 2-storey penthouse. 

Successful project Off Plan

The Castle Rooftop Gardens project was an idea from his experience enjoying the private outside space, this possibility was an almost impossible feature within Gibraltar’s town centre. The combination of roof terrace and living accommodation produced 5 top floor luxury, fully fitted and furnished apartment, with all the advantages. An individual interior staircase led up to private rooftop terrace with incredible views. This very innovative project targeted the lack of these types of apartments in Gibraltar, an affordable accommodation with outside space within the town centre was to mark a new era and a very sought-after urban renewal development. The project coincidentally became extra popular due to Covid 19 and the development was completed in 2021 through the pandemic and the restrictions at the time. The high demand and popularity rocketed the prices on the resale market, eventually turning over a 40% return for the Off Plan purchaser.
